Essential oils for natural hair.
Essential oils are gotten from the core parts of a plant e.g grasses, leaves, flowers, twigs, barks, peels of fruits or the root of the plant.
You can choose an essential oil for your hair based on its properties, what it targets and if it suits your hair and scalp.
Generally, essential oils help treat scalp conditions like dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, lice infection and hair loss.
Treating your scalp with essential oils at least twice a month will help treat your hair of any scalp condition it may have.
Also massaging your scalp with hair oils help relieve stress and promotes hair growth by enhancing blood circulation to your hair follicles.
Common essential oils.
Peppermint essential oil
Lavender essential oil
Tea tree essential oil
Rosemary essential oil
Lemongrass essential oil
Cedarwood essential oil
Thyme essential oil
Clary sage essential oil
Essential oils should be diluted with carrier oils because they are too concentrated and can cause an allergic reaction to the skin.
Carrier oils can be used solely on the hair but are also used in combination with essential oils to reduce its concentration.
Common carrier oils
Olive oil
Coconut oil
Argan oil
Jojoba oil
Almond oil
Grapeseed oil
Avocado oil
Before choosing a carrier oil to dilute your essential oil with, it's best you use a carrier oil that is right for your hair and scalp. My last post on The benefit of oils for healthy hair growth addressed this. Click here to read it.
HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS ON YOUR HAIR.
Add a few drops of your essential oil to one tablespoon of your carrier oil and massage it into your hair. Leave it in for about 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with a shampoo.
You can also add a few drops of your essential oil, at most five drops to your shampoo and conditioner on your wash days.
Note: It's best to conduct a patch test before applying any essential oil to your scalp if you have a sensitive scalp.
